Potomac Yard Construction Forces Changes on Two Alexandria Trails
Beginning the week of January 28, the City of Alexandria will reroute two highly frequented pedestrian and bicycle paths due to the ongoing construction at Potomac Yard.
First, the City’s trail at Four Mile Run Park, which runs east from the north end of Commonwealth Avenue toward Route 1, will be rerouted for approximately three months. There will be no closures of the trail, which provides a major pedestrian and bicycle connection between Commonwealth Avenue and the Mount Vernon Trail.
The second trail affected by Potomac Yard construction is the existing shared-use path adjacent to Route 1 from Windsor Avenue to East Glebe Road. This trail has been rerouted to the east to allow roadway grading and storm drain installation. The path is the only pedestrian and bicycle facility along the east side of Route 1.
Potomac Yard construction crews have posted trail detour signs, and will provide pedestrian and bicycle safety improvements to the crossing of Route 1 at East Custis Avenue. Contact information will be posted on signs at the site, at detour locations and online at potomacyardalexandria.com.
