City of Alexandria Teams With Volunteer Alexandria to Provide for “Snow Buddies” Program
Provides eligible residents with volunteer snow removal assistance
The City of Alexandria and Volunteer Alexandria have teamed up on a program called “Snow Buddies,” to provide snow removal assistance for low-income homeowners or occupants who are elderly or disabled. The City and Volunteer Alexandria will match eligible residents with volunteers who can shovel their snow.
Residents are strongly encouraged to apply for this program in advance to ensure that their sidewalks can be cleared in enough time to avoid City fines and/or snow removal charges. The City will determine when the "Snow Buddies" program is activated during a snow emergency, and will notify the public in a press release and on the City's Web site. The City cannot guarantee that volunteers and/or assistance will be available during a snow emergency; however, during snow emergencies, the Office of Citizen Assistance (703.838.4800 or TTY 703.838.5056) is available to provide guidance to residents in need of snow removal.
To apply for the “Snow Buddies” program, contact the Office of Citizen Assistance at 703.838.4800 or TTY 703.838.5056. To become a volunteer for the “Snow Buddies” program, please contact Kelly Sazama of Volunteer Alexandria at 703.836.2176.
