Eighteenth-Century Dance Classes at Gadsby’s Tavern Museum

Learn the dances of Jane Austen, George Washington, and Abigail Adams in Gadsby's Tavern Museum’s historic ballroom. Dance master Corky Palmer will lead this fun and educational series of 18th-century English country dance classes in preparation for the Birthnight Ball on February 19.

Dance classes will be held at Gadsby’s Tavern Museum, 134 North Royal Street, on Thursdays, February 3, 10, and 17, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Singles or couples are welcome at this beginner-level series.

The cost for lessons is $30 for the series or $12 per class. Reservations are requested and can be made by calling 703.746.4242 or online.

In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, Gadsby’s Tavern was the center of social and political life in Alexandria and the new Federal City of Washington.  The tavern served as the premier gathering place for residents – including George Washington – and visitors to eat, drink, learn, and influence history. Gadsby’s Tavern Museum is located in the heart of Old Town Alexandria.
