City of Alexandria, VA
Proposed Changes to Personal Grooming RegulationsVisit alexandriava.gov/40656 for additional information about health permits. Public MeetingsStakeholder Meeting: March 13 The Alexandria Health Department (AHD) is reviewing the City’s regulations of personal grooming facilities such as barber shops, beauty shops, nail salons and tanning salons. This is a possible step toward AHD recommending to City Council to consider deregulating these personal grooming facilities (the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Department of Professional and Occupational Regulations would continue to require licensing of barbers, beauticians, estheticians, nail technicians, and wax technicians). Alexandria Health Department officials will meet with stakeholders and interested citizens to discuss the regulations and positive and negative impact of possible repeal of the City’s Personal Grooming Establishment Ordinance. The meeting will be on Wednesday March 13 at 1:00 PM at the Lee Center. < top > RecommendationsTBD < top > Current CodePersonal grooming establishments are currently regulated by Title 11, Chapter 7 of the Code of the City of Alexandria.
