Alexandria Police Honors Volunteers at 23rd Annual Awards Ceremony

On Tuesday, May 1, 2012, volunteers from the Alexandria Police Department were honored for their exceptional service to the community during the 23rd Annual Awards Ceremony held in the community room at Police Headquarters.  Police Department volunteers contributed significant hours of their own time volunteering.  They serve in vital roles essential to public safety, from translating for patrol officers to helping with accreditation.  In 2011, volunteers dedicated a total of 4,983 hours to the Alexandria Police Department.

The 29 members of the Police Department’s Volunteer Program come from a variety of backgrounds and offer a plethora of skills and abilities to the department while providing a great cost benefit to the City.
Over 27 awards were presented to our dedicated volunteers, including Presidential Volunteer Service Awards for 100 to 500 committed hours.  Volunteers were also presented with Years of Service Awards for five, 15, and 20 years with the Police Department.

Special recognition was given to four volunteers who have committed 4,000 or more service hours to the Police Department.  Richard Muller (5,897 hours), Converse West (5,234 hours), Conrad Zimnick (4,355 hours) and Calvin Fox (10,109 hours and a 20 Year Service Award Recipient) were all honored as Pacesetters Club Members, the highest honor a volunteer can receive.
