“Tavern Toddlers” Returns to Gadsby’s Tavern Museum

Fall Session Begins After Labor Day

Gadsby’s Tavern Museum welcomes back Tavern Toddlers! The fall session begins Monday, September 12, and continues weekly (except for Federal holidays) through Monday, December 19.  Because it’s never too early for kids to appreciate history, the museum developed this special program for toddlers (walkers through 36 months) and their caregivers. Tavern Toddlers features a weekly open playtime on Mondays anytime between 10:30 a.m. and noon, and a new craft activity each week.

Each week costs $7 for a group of three, which must include one adult, and additional people are just $3. A five-visit pass costs $30, never expires, and includes up to three people. Pre-registration is not required, and single or multiple passes can be purchased at the door as space permits.

As America began as a nation during the late 18th century and emerged in the 19th century, Gadsby’s Tavern was the center of social and political life in Alexandria as well as the new Federal City of Washington.  The tavern served as the premier gathering place for residents – including George Washington – and visitors to eat, drink, learn, and influence history.  Tavern keepers John Wise and John Gadsby hosted balls, performances, and meetings, and their accommodations were known as the best by travelers near and far.

Gadsby’s Tavern Museum is located at 134 North Royal Street in the heart of Old Town Alexandria and is owned and operated by the City of Alexandria.
