Two Alarm Fire Displaces Residents

 News Highlights

  • Alexandria Fire Department responded to a two alarm fire in a garden apartment building in the 5700 block of Rayburn Avenue at 3:36 pm. 
  • Fire Units arrived on the scene and discovered a fire in the attic of the apartment building. 
  • A second alarm was struck to assist in fighting the fire. 
  • The fire was confined to the attic area with some damage to two apartments below. 
  • Fire Damage is estimated at $50,000. 
  • The fire in under investigation. 
  • No injuries were reported. 
  • The occupants of two apartments were relocated as a result of damage sustained to the building from the fire. 

On July 20, 2011, at approximately 3:36 pm units from the Alexandria Fire Department, assisted by Arlington and Fairfax County fire departments responded to a report of an apartment fire in a garden apartment located in the 5700 block of Rayburn Avenue.   Firefighters arriving on the scene discovered a fire in the attic space of the apartment building.   A second alarm was requested to assist on scene fire crews who initiated an attack on the fire..   The fire was quickly extinguished; however fire crews remained on the scene for a period of time afterward doing overhaul.

The occupants of two apartments were relocated due to damage from the fire.  Damage is estimated at $50,000.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
