Definition of the Alexandria Mentoring Partnership
The Alexandria Mentoring Partnership is a group of coordinated mentoring organizations that work together and share resources for mutual benefit and support in order to increase and enhance the quality of mentoring in Alexandria.
To ensure that quality mentors and mentor programs are available for Alexandria’s youth and young adults in need by maximizing mentor recruitment, screening, and training
Every child and young adult in need in Alexandria has a quality mentoring relationship.
Provide at least two major community events annually (one during National Mentoring Month and one in early fall) that will educate attendees about mentoring benefits and opportunities, recognize existing mentors, and encourage community members to sign up to become mentors.
Raise public awareness of mentoring benefits and opportunities through such means as print media, flyers, social networking sites, the AMP website, and meetings with businesses, members of the faith community, and others.
Ensure that member organizations are informed of best practices in the areas of mentor recruitment, screening, and training.
Maintain an ongoing database of youth being mentored and youth needing mentors.
Perform annual evaluation of selected AMP outcome measures to determine success in achieving AMP goals.
Act as a clearinghouse for incoming calls from individuals interested in becoming a mentor, individuals interested in finding a mentor for a child, and groups interested in collaborating with existing mentoring programs.
Coordinate with the Virginia Mentoring Partnership and others to provide training on topics of interest to AMP members.
Collaborate with other community groups addressing youth issues, such as the City’s Gang Prevention Task Force, the Partnership for a Healthier Alexandria Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Alexandria (SAPCA), and the Alexandria Campaign on Adolescent Pregnancy, as well as regional mentoring and anti-gang efforts.
