Aging & Adult Services

The Aging and Adult Services Division serves seniors and adults with disabilities with special emphasis given to those who have a low income and are most at risk of being institutionalized.  The office also serves as the Area Agency on Aging and provides staff support for the Alexandria Commission on Aging.   • The Alexandria Commission on Aging is seeking nominations for the Annual Excellence in Aging Awards.  These awards honor individuals, regardless of age, who have provided service to older Alexandrians or demonstrated superior contributions in advancing issues and projects that favorably affect older Alexandrians.  Award winners will be recognized at a reception Tuesday, May 12 at 6 p.m. in the Vola Lawson Lobby in City Hall. Long Term Care Long term care is generally defined as "Medical care received in a nursing facility or in a community setting that is expected to last at least 30 days". Medicare generally does not pay for this type of care.
