Programs Available to the Community

If you are a member, employee or owner/manager of a school, PTO/PTA group, business, club, organization or religious group, have you thought of inviting the Alexandria Office on Women to speak? To book a speaker from the Office on Women on any of these topics, please call 703.746.5030.

Through age-appropriate discussion and activities, topics can include:

  • Assertiveness
  • Conflict resolution
  • Developing healthy relationships
  • Domestic violence
  • Employment services
  • Violence in the workplace
  • Sexual assault
  • Sexual harassment
  • Stalking
  • Teen pregnancy prevention

Currently, we serve Alexandria schools with a curriculum designed for grades five, seven and nine/ten. The Expect Respect curriculum is intended to provide information, support and guidance for school aged students. The objectives of the curriculum are to help students:

  • Define terms associated with sexual harassment, sexual assault, domestic violence and teen pregnancy prevention
  • Recognize destructive and unhealthy patterns of behavior in relationships
  • Set goals and make choices that lead to safety awareness and risk reduction and that value the self and others
  • Recognize the importance of clear communication, assertive behavior and self- respect for establishing and maintaining violence free, healthy relationships
  • Understand the importance of delaying sexual intercourse and choosing behaviors that reduce the risk of teen pregnancy

For more information on the Expect Respect curriculum or to schedule a presentation, please contact Kim Hurley at 703.746.5030 or kim.hurley@alexandriava.gov.
