Lake Barcroft Dam Information Meeting
The City of Alexandria invite residents to attend an informational meeting regarding the Lake Barcroft Dam on Wednesday, June 24 from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at the William Ramsay Elementary School located at 5700 Sanger Avenue. This meeting will be an opportunity for residents along Holmes Run, Backlick Run, Cameron Run, and Hooffs Run to get more information about the results of two Dam Inundation Studies. Alexandria Earns Bronze “Bicycle Friendly Community” Designation!
The City of Alexandria receives the bronze level for the 2009 Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) award by the League of American Bicyclists. The League recognizes the City of Alexandria for its efforts to welcome bicyclists and making bicycling safer and more enjoyable. Since 2006, the City of Alexandria and its community partners have focused on bicycling-related engineering, education, encouragement, and enforcement. Richard J. Baier named as Interim Director of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities Alexandria City Manager James K. Hartmann recently appointed Transportation & Environmental Services Director Richard J. Baier, P.E. as Interim Director of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities, effective April 7, until a new Director is appointed. In his absence Emily Baker will serve as the Interim Director of T&ES and Maurice Daly will serve as Interim City Engineer. City of Alexandria to Host AHS Garden School - Eco-City Principles In Action: Sustainable Gardening Practices The City of Alexandria, in cooperation with the American Horticultural Society (AHS), will host a new Garden School, "Green Garage®: Sustainable and Earth-Friendly Solutions for the Landscape" on Saturday, June 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Lee Center, 1108 Jefferson St. Garden School participants will learn about environmentally friendly gardening practices from organic lawn care and water conservation to soil health and creating wildlife habitats. Household Hazardous Waste Facility Extends Hours of Operation Now Open: Monday & Saturday 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. The Household Hazardous Waste facility will extend hours of operation at 3600 Wheeler Avenue. Alexandria residents are encouraged to drop off items to the facility on Mondays and Saturdays, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Please remember, the improper disposal of hazardous materials will pollute the environment and may cause bodily injury when handled directly.

All Aboard the King Street Trolley!
The free King Street Trolley service transports residents, visitors, and those who work in Old Town, between the King Street Metrorail Station and the Potomac River waterfront. The trolley operates seven days a week from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., providing access to accommodations, dining, entertainment and shopping.

The Construction and Inspection Division, located in room 4130 in City Hall, manages and inspects capital improvement projects through all phases of construction and all work within the right of way.

The Engineering and Design Division, located in room 3200 in City Hall, designs capital improvement projects to be administered by the department, reviews State projects, and privately submitted site plans to ensure construction is in compliance with the City's engineering standards and policies.

The Office of Environmental Quality (OEQ), located in Room 3000 in City Hall, administers the City's air, water, and noise improvement programs, which help preserve and protect the environment and public health and welfare.

Maintenance Division
The Maintenance Division, located in the T&ES Operations building located at 2900 Business Center Drive, provides maintenance and repairs for all City sewers, streets, sidewalks and fire hydrants; maintains stream beds, weirs and stream banks; maintains drainage tunnels, box culverts, storm water pollution removal facilities; maintains bridges; and conducts snow removal and flood control operations.
