Letter Sent to Norfolk Southern Seeking Resolution of Outstanding Issues

On Wednesday, September 24, 2008, Alexandria Mayor William D. Euille sent a letter to David T. Lawson at Norfolk Southern regarding unresolved issues with the ethanol transloading operation. These issues include 1) the location of the facility and its proximity to residential communities, a school, and a Metrorail station; 2) intensification of activity at the transloading facility; and 3) complaints of late night noise from residents near the facility. The Mayor’s letter also called for discussions about the possible relocation of the facility, and how the City can assist with that relocation.

Cameron Station/Summers Grove Community Emergency Plan Workshop, October 4

The City is holding a community workshop on Saturday, October 4, from 9 a.m. to noon at Samuel Tucker Elementary School. This event will include a preview of the emergency plans for Cameron Station, Summers Grove and Samuel Tucker Elementary School; an interactive emergency exercise; and a display of the City’s firefighting capabilities.

On Thursday, October 2, the City will use the Telephone Emergency Notification System (TENS) to notify residents at Cameron Station and Summers Grove about the October 4 community workshop. In addition to reminding residents about the workshop, the purpose of using TENS notification is to also familiarize residents with the system.
