All,
As most of you are aware Norfolk Southern
Railroad has begun transloading ethanol from DOT 111 rail cars to DOT 406
tank trucks, at their west end facility. The Fire Chief and City Officials
are in negotiations with Norfolk Southern to obtain the necessary equipment
and training that will be necessary to deal with an ethanol incident. Currently
alcohol resident foam (AR-AFFF) is being stored on site at the entrance
to the property. A Knox box has been installed on the fence containing
keys to the foam storage, gates, and field office, along with after hours
contact information. On the "U" drive you will find photographs
of the facility, transfer operation, and foam storage container. Tours
of the facility will be coming soon, along with training on the transfer
operation. I will keep you advised as more information becomes available,
feel free to contact me if you have questions.
