Inmate and Support Services BureauThe Inmate/Support Services Bureau, commanded by Chief Deputy Wendy Webb, performs vital functions that support the secure operations of the Detention Center. While the Detention Center Operations Bureau is responsible primarily for keeping the jail secure, Inmate/Support Services is responsible for other duties that are essential to the jail’s operations. The bureau is responsible for classifying and properly housing all inmates committed to the Detention Center, performs the inmate records function, coordinates the upkeep and maintenance of the facility’s physical plant and recruits for and manages the inmate work crews. The Bureau also supervises the Detention Center’s contract food, medical and mental health services, and is responsible for ensuring that required sanitation and fire/life safety standards are met. The Bureau is also responsible for overseeing the Office's involvement in all construction projects which take place on the Public Safety Center Complex (PSC). Several major projects have included the Virginia Department of Transportation's road construction, and the ongoing slab re-construction at the PSC.
The Bureau is separated into two operational components, both commanded by Captain Douglas Schuler. The Inmate Services Division performs functions that improve the quality of life for inmates from a management, rehabilitative and care perspective. The Division accomplishes the inmate classification and counseling function, serves as liaison to the contract medical and mental health service providers, plans, coordinates and implements inmate rehabilitative programs, recruits and manages all volunteers and provides for restorative justice programs that provide work opportunities for individuals in lieu of incarceration. Support Services concentrates on issues that affect inmates' safety and environmental quality of life. The section is responsible for facility maintenance, compliance with all fire/life safety requirements, the inmate worker and Inmate Work Detail programs, the inmate records function, and facility construction management. |
