Inmate Art to Be Featured at Art on the Avenue
Artwork by inmates at the William G. Truesdale Adult Detention Center will be on exhibit at Art on the Avenue this Saturday, October 6, and those attending the annual arts and music festival in Del Ray will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite.
The Sheriff’s Office will staff a table on Mount Vernon Avenue near East Howell Avenue and display eight drawings created by inmates in pencil, ink and/or color pencil. Between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., festival goers can vote for their favorite by putting the corresponding number on a ballot and dropping the ballot in a box. First, second and third place prizes will result in credit to the inmates’ accounts that cover personal expenses like snacks, postage and hygiene items.
During the summer, inmate artists competed in an art show where fellow inmates voted for their favorites. The winning artwork from that competition, shown below, will also be on view at Art on the Avenue.
