On June 28, 2011 City Council passed a resolution (see link below) to re-establish an Ad Hoc Fort Ward Park and Museum Area Stakeholder Advisory Group in response to a recommendation of the previous Stakeholder Advisory Group to establish a successor committee. Meetings have concluded and the group is finalizing the park management plan.

The charge of work for this group is as follows:
The group meets for a 24-month period starting with the month of appointment (September, 2011). Per the approved charge of work, their function is to participate with and advise staff of RPCA, OHA, and T&ES on the implementation of recommendations from the 2011 report. Specifically, the focus of work is those items funded with the 2012 budget for Fort Ward Park and Museum Area.Membership of the group includes 14 people appointed by the City Manager based on the categories:

Since its establishment in the 1960s, the Fort Ward Park and Museum Area site is an important community and citywide parks and historic resource. In the fall of 2008, significant community interest became apparent in operation of the park and historical resources. Through a series of public meetings in the winter and early spring of 2009, the Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities Department developed a matrix of community and user issues. In order to respond to the longer-term future of the park, City Council created an Ad Hoc Stakeholder Advisory Group to study these issues.
The Advisory Group, established in June, 2009 consisted of ten members appointed by the City Manager to a one year term, beginning in December, 2009 and ending in January, 2011. The goal set for the advisory group was to advise staff, recommending an appropriate balance between the different uses of the park, including active, passive/environmental and historic/archeological interests. As stated in Resolution 2349, the functions of the advisory group were as follows:
