Woman Charged with Financial Exploitation of Mentally Incapacitated Person

Law Went into Effect in July 1, 2013

Alexandria Police Department arrested Tisa Dorsey, 29, of Greenbelt, MD, Financial Exploitation of Mentally Incapacitated Person on December 11, 2013.

Between May of 2012 and August of 2013, Ms. Dorsey took advantage of the elderly resident who she worked for as a cleaning lady.  Over the 14 month period Ms. Dorsey stole over 100 checks and cashed them for a total of $87,415.

Financial Exploitation of Mentally Incapacitated Person (18.2-178.1) is a law that went into effect on July 1, 2013, and this is the first time it has been charged in the City of Alexandria. The addition of this law is very significant in that it assists residents who may not be able to help themselves, and are sometimes at the mercy of their caregivers.

Police ask that anyone who has information about crimes of this nature, call the Alexandria Police Department at 703.746.4444.
