 3rd UPDATE: Grand Jury Indicts Suspect in Holly Street Homicide

Earlier today, the Alexandria Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office announced the indictment of Marie M. Johnson, 45, for Murder, Attempted Arson, and Destruction of Property in the murder of Elmer Roehrs. Counsel for Ms. Johnson will be appointed at an advisement hearing. Prosecutors assigned to this case are Commonwealth’s Attorney S. Randolph Sengel and Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Cathryn Evans.

Trial dates for these cases will be selected within the next ten days.

2nd UPDATE: Alexandria Police Release Manner of Death in Holly Street Incident

An autopsy performed Thursday has determined the manner of death to be a homicide.

This is the first homicide for Alexandria in 2013. There were no homicides in 2012. The investigation continues.

UPDATE: Victim Identified in Suspicious Death

The victim of last night’s suspicious death has been identified as 94 year-old Elmer Roehrs. The cause and manner of death are still pending autopsy results from the medical examiner’s office.

Alexandria detectives had been investigating a burglary that occurred at the same address in the 2700 block of Holly Street on November 27, 2012. The suspect in that burglary was located and arrested last night by the Alexandria Police Department’s Tactical Anti-Crime Unit. Marie Maybell Johnson, 45, of no fixed address, was arrested around 3:15 a.m. following a traffic stop in the 1400 block of Duke Street. She was interviewed by detectives and transported to the William G. Truesdale Adult Detention Center where she is being held without bond. She was charged with Burglary and Grand Larceny from the incident on November 27, 2012.

She has not been charged in relation to the incident from last night. That investigation is ongoing.

Alexandria Police Investigate Suspicious Death on Holly Street

Alexandria Police are investigating a suspicious death that occurred in the 2700 block of Holly Street on Wednesday, February 13. Around 6:50 p.m. a resident of the address came home to find a 94 year-old man, who was also a resident, suffering from upper body trauma. The victim was pronounced on the scene by medics.

The victim’s identity is being held pending notification of next of kin. The cause and manner of death will be determined pending an autopsy by the medical examiner’s office. The investigation is ongoing.
