Background
On June 9, 2009, the City Council authorized staff to seek a grant from the Office of Economic Adjustment of the Department of Defense to fund consulting work in support of the Beauregard Corridor Plan. The staff report is available at the link below.
Staff Report
Community meetings are scheduled to begin in Fall, 2009. A draft plan is scheduled to be available for public review in Summer, 2010. After public consultation in the summer and fall, the draft will be revised, and the final draft heard by the Planning Commission and City Council in Fall, 2010.
The City has chosen to pursue development of the Beauregard Corridor Plan now because of the development interest in the area responding to the Department of Defense BRAC-133 Mark Center project. The BRAC-133 Mark Center project will add more than 6,400 employees to Mark Center in 2011. This additional economic activity will change residential, retail and office demand in the immediate area, and accelerates the need to anticipate potential future uses, development patterns and transportation service in the Beauregard Corridor area. The planning effort will examine options for future development, and will examine how to integrate the proposed dedicated transit corridor along Beauregard Street into the area in accordance with the citywide transportation corridors strategy of the City's Transportation Master Plan.
