Temporary Portable Sign Pilot ProgramThe current Temporary Portable Sign Program is slated to expire November 1, 2009. In October, City Council will consider an ordinance to extend the program until June 30, 2011 or implementation of the Wayfinding Design Guidelines, whichever is sooner. The proposed ordinance will go to City Council on October 17 for introduction and first reading (docket item #18, see below for link) and on October 27 for public hearing, second reading and adoption. Program InformationOn November 25, 2008 the Alexandria City Council voted to adopt an ordinance to establish a pilot program to allow temporary portable signs for restaurant and retail-oriented businesses in the Central Business District (Old Town), not located on King Street.
