Royal Street Bus Garage Redevelopment Update

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is planning to proceed with the redevelopment of the existing Royal Street bus garage, located in North Old Town. Prior to issuing a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the site, WMATA has agreed to work with the City and community to define redevelopment criteria for the site. As a result of this agreement, The City Manager appointed a Royal Street Bus Garage Ad Hoc Advisory Committee to provide guidance in the creation of redevelopment parameters and design standards for consideration in the RFP process. The Committee includes appointed officials, adjacent residents, major property owners and representatives of civic, community and business organizations with an interest in the site.  The first committee meeting was held on Saturday, February 8. Meetings will be held over the next several months, with interactive sessions to identify issues, redevelopment options, public benefits and design principles for the site. The next meeting is Wednesday, March 12 at 6:00 p.m., location to be determined. Public participation is encouraged at each Committee meeting.
