Local Motion and Bicycle Friendly Businesses

Alexandria endorses The League of American Bicyclists’s Bicycle Friendly Business (BFB) program, which recognizes employer efforts to create a more bicycle-friendly environment for employees and guests at their property. BFBs practice social responsibility by integrating bicycling into the business culture and giving employees the opportunity to be active stewards of their personal and environmental health through cycling. Improvements such as secure bike parking and shower facilities at the workplace will help make Alexandria a more bicycle-friendly city and achieve the goals established in the Eco-City Alexandria Action Plan. The City of Alexandria, through the efforts of its Local Motion Program, is available to provide assistance throughout the application process and will continue to work with awardees to implement bicycle friendly programs and practices. Organizations that do not yet meet the standards for a Bicycle Friendly Business award can also receive assistance in making improvements and preparations for future program designation.
