Current Traffic Calming Projects (Updated 12/9/08)

Commonwealth Avenue

The speed humps on Commonwealth Avenue have been repaired and retrofitted to speed cushions (slotted speed humps) between King Street Metro and East Braddock Road.  The retrofit is to better accommodate emergency vehicles and allow them to travel on Commonwealth with less delay while still slowing other vehicles.  In addition, the project repaired and repainted the failing asphalt on the speed humps on Commonwealth.

East Glebe Road between Commonwealth Avenue and Route 1

A revised concept is being developed for traffic calming and pedestrian safety at the intersection of E. Glebe Road, Ashby Street, and Montrose Avenue. The proposed project will create pedestrian refuge medians and improved intersection geometry.  The goal of the project is to slow vehicles traveling on E. Glebe and create an opportunity for safer pedestrian crossing between E. Glebe and Commonwealth.
