The Court Service Unit provides a parent education program called FOCUS. The program is intended to help parents, grandparents and other persons who are involved in custody and visitation cases in the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court understand the court process and their rights and responsibilities as a parent or custodian of a child.
The FOCUS program is designed to provide important information to parents and other family members on the long-term effects that parental fighting and inappropriate behavior can have on their children. Parents and family members leave the program with a better understanding of how to help children cope with the difficulties associated with parental separation.
The FOCUS program encourages parents and custodians to find their own solutions to difficult family issues instead of having solutions imposed on them by a Judge. FOCUS is provided in English and a separate program is available in the community for Spanish speaking parents.
