Assisted Job Search for Persons with Disabilities
JobLink provides a variety of services for persons with disabilities who are seeking employment. A disabilities counselor can assist with resume preparation, interviewing skills, vocational assessments and job placement. There is also assistive technology for persons who are visually or hearing impaired. This technology includes:

Employment Training
Special programs offer training options for those who meet eligibility criteria.
Dislocated Workers
Persons who have lost their jobs due to layoffs or downsizing and are receiving unemployment benefits may be eligible for employment training to re-enter the workforce. Meet with an employment training specialist to see if you qualify.
- Access to job training courses
- Subsidized and unsubsidized employment placements
- Job search assistance
- Information and referrals for supportive services, including transportation, medical exams, legal counseling, nutritious meals and recreation.
TANF Recipients
TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) recipients enrolled in the VIEW program (Virginia Initiative for Employment not Welfare) receive employment-related services from the Alexandria Works! teams. The broad range of services includes
- Counseling
- Job search and job readiness training
- Community work experience
- Education and vocational training
- Employment English and life skills classes
- Supportive services including transportation and child care.
Food Stamp Recipients
The Food Stamp Employment and Training program (FSET) provides educational programs and services to enable food stamp recipients to find employment. The range of opportunities includes
- Employment English/Life Skills Courses
- Job search training,
- Transportation assistance and referrals to other services.
Refugee Resettlement Program
The Virginia Refugee Resettlement Program (VRRP) helps refugees and asylees adjust to their new lives in this country. JobLink provides the following services:
- Employment counseling
- Supportive services
- English as a Second Language (ESL) classes
- Vocational training
- Job development and placement
Persons seeking services must have an I-94 and be a resident of Alexandria
Community Digital Divide Initiative
If you lack the computer skills needed for employment or promotion, ask your employment specialist about the Community Digital Divide Initiative (CDDI), an Internet based training program.
