Family Day at Gadsby’s Tavern Museum | July 6, August 10, 24

Bring your family and uncover the science behind the Ice Well

Gadsby s Tavern-Child and Ice BlockOn three Sundays this summer, families are invited to attend a tour of the historic tavern while Junior Docents, volunteers from grades 4 through 7, share their enthusiasm and passion for history. Your children will be inspired by their peers to explore the magic of history themselves as they tour the tavern where George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and many others made history. The tour will include exploring how the historic ice well worked through making a period appropriate dessert - ice cream! Come and see how learning history can be fun for the whole family at this educationally exciting event.  Tour times are between 1- 4 p.m., and the cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 5-12. No reservation is necessary, but come quick, before the ice cream melts!
In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, Gadsby’s Tavern was the center of social and political life in Alexandria and the new Federal City of Washington.  The tavern served as the premier gathering place for residents – including George Washington – and visitors to eat, drink, learn, and influence history. Gadsby’s Tavern Museum is located in the heart of Old Town Alexandria.
