Administrative Services
The Fire Department Administrative Services Bureau provides technical and professional support for the other branches of the department. This support includes maintenance, fiscal management, payroll, information management, record keeping, reports, capital improvements, and various other staff and administrative functions. A battalion chief commands the division.
Facilities & Supply
The Facilities and Supply section of the Administrative Services Bureau is located at Fire Station 208, 175 North Paxton Street. This office is responsible for obtaining items, such as cleaning supplies, uniforms, equipment, and tools for the eight fire stations in the City as well as for Fire Training, Fire Apparatus Maintenance, and Fire Communications. These items are distributed by and accounted for by this section. Furthermore, the facilities side of the section interacts with vendors and contractors to obtain needed repairs and upgrades to Fire Department facilities.
Budget Information
The Fire/EMS Department's Personnel Section is part of the Administrative Services Bureau and consists of a commander, a personnel clerk, and a secretary. The section is responsible for recruitment activities and the development and administration of selection methods for all public safety positions (firefighters and emergency rescue technicians) within the department, and monitoring and/or reviewing recruitment and selection techniques for all non-public-safety positions.
There are 200 public safety positions: 147 firefighters including the Fire Chief, 45 emergency rescue technicians, and 8 deputy fire marshals. The remaining 67 positions are civilian and include administrators, engineers, and support staff.
In addition, the section is responsible for administering the payroll process for each division within the department, maintaining personnel and related files, and administering the department's annual medical evaluation program.
Information Management
The Information Management section provides technical support for the department's electronic communications systems. Incident and response data and statistics are compiled by this section. In addition, this unit supplies information to the public when they need a copy of a fire report or emergency medical service response report. In order to obtain a report, call 703-838-4600. Privacy laws prohibit the release of medical information except in the following cases:
- To the patient
- To the parent or legal guardian of a minor
- To an individual empowered by law or court decree to act for the patient
- To the family of a deceased patient.
A patient's family must have written consent from the patient in order to obtain a report. Family members of a deceased patient must show identification and give a written statement verifying their relationship to the deceased.
In all cases, proper identification must be provided and a fee must be paid for the report.
