  • AFD formerly used the "50" series of numbers for stations to differentiate from Fairfax County which used numbers 1-49, ACFD which used the "70" series, and Federal (or formally federal) which used the "60" series. Alexandria currently uses "2" as the first number of a 3 digit number. The Washington Metro area has adopted this system on the Virginia side of the river. Numbers have been designated for DCFD, PGFD and MCFRD but they are not doing so at this time.
  • Virginia departments that are adopting the 3 digit system include: Alexandria (200), Arlington (100), Fairfax County & Fairfax City (400), Loudoun (600), and Prince William (500) and Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority (300).
