Fire Emergency Services Section
The Fire Emergency Services Section provides fire suppression and special operations for the Fire Department. Special Operations functions include Hazardous Materials Response, Marine Operations and Technical Rescue. Fire Suppression and Special Operations functions are distributed throughout the City at eight of the City's nine fire stations.
Fire Emergency Services Section staffs eight engine companies, three truck companies, one hazardous materials unit, a marine unit and a heavy rescue squad. Three shifts provide 24 hour coverage year round. Each shift is supervised by two battalion chiefs, assigned to the East and West battalions. Logistical support is provided by a Battalion Aide (Captain) assigned to each shift.
In addition to emergency responses, the Fire Emergency Services Section performs a number of daily community outreach activities in order to inform the public on fire safety and injury prevention. The goal is to educate the public in fire and injury prevention in order to reduce the number of fire losses and injuries that occur annually.
