"REMOTE START" TO OFFICIALLY BEGIN SEPTEMBER 28, 2009The Office of Building and Fire Code Administration (OBAFCA) is pleased to announce the beginning of a new staff resource program referred to as “Remote Start". The program is intended to enhance communications and information sharing between divisions within OBAFCA and with other outside agencies. These divisions will begin their day together at a central gathering point sharing information, coordinating inspections, sharing staffing and other resources. As a result of the new program, Code Administration will be able to trim leased office space from our budget, fully utilize the investment in electronic and wireless technology and combine resources to better serve our citizens and customers. All inspection staff (with exception of the Fire System Retesting Unit and some shift personnel) will begin their day at 7:30 am with a half hour briefing to receive daily assignments, conduct brief training programs and exchange information. They will receive and return customer phone calls from 8:00 am to 8:30 am and begin their assignments thereafter. As part of this effort, we have created a place on the City of Alexandria web page that will provide customers an opportunity to see their scheduled inspections, the daily inspection work load and the inspector assigned to their activity. Contact information for the inspector assigned to your inspection is provided with each entry. We encourage you to contact the inspector assigned to your inspection directly if you have any questions. The inspection viewer will provide the current and next work day schedule. We hope this will assist in providing you with confirmation that your inspection is scheduled. Please note: Beginning August 19, 2009, inspectors will not be reporting to their previous work site locations to start their day. Customer calls to coordinate inspections will be received from 8:00 am to 8:30 am and it is best to contact the inspectors directly. This is a change from the current 7:00 am to 8:00 am office time for new construction staff and 8:00 am to 9:00 am for maintenance code and fire inspection staff. If you are unable to reach an inspector during this time, please leave a detailed message on their voice mail and the inspector will return your call. Calls to 703.706.4200 will be answered by our Permit Center staff after 8:00 am. Please visit our website for more information and further instructions. |
