The
Office of Consumer Affairs mediates complaints between consumers and businesses for retail transactions that occur within the City. The office also provides information, advice, and consumer education for all citizens of the City, regardless of the location of the transaction.
Consumer Affairs is your city government consumer protection office. Staff investigates unfair, deceptive, dangerous, or illegal retail business practices and mediates complaints which you may have been unable to resolve. In addition, staff can tell you whether complaints have been filed against a particular company, what the complaints were about, and whether they have been resolved. Finally, Consumer Affairs staff members are available to talk to your club or group about consumer issues affecting citizens today.
Last year, the Office of Consumer Affairs fielded an average of 900 calls each month, mediated 400 complaints and recovered $128,000 of consumer-disputed funds. For more information, call 703.838.4350.
If you have a problem with a business and can’t resolve it yourself, or would like a staff member to meet with your group or club, call the Office of Consumer affairs on 838.4350.
