Local Emergency Planning Committee
The Local Emergency Planning Committee is responsible for: devising and distributing emergency plans aimed at addressing chemical hazards; completing emergency plans which includes an identification of facilities subject to SARA requirements; a listing of methods and procedures to respond to a release of hazardous chemicals; the appointment of community and facility emergency coordinators; procedures for notification of hazardous chemicals release; an outline of the methods for determining the occurrence of a release and the sites and populations affected; a description of the facilities within the community and their emergency equipment; evacuation plans; training programs and alternative traffic routes to prepare for an emergency response; and responding to citizen requests for information. The Committee meets quarterly at the call of the Chair. Approximately two hours per meeting are required of Committee members.
