Bike & Walk   bikeped_hdr

Alexandria is often recognized as one of the most walkable cities in the U.S. This is primarily because of a rich tradition of smart urban design. We also emphasize accessibility, safe routes to school, and transit, and encourage active living through use of our extensive park and trail system.

We are also a city of cyclists! More people than ever are using their bicycles for errands and riding on the popular Mount Vernon and W&OD trails. With our Spin City initiative, Alexandria is becoming even more bicycle friendly. In 2009, the City was recognized as a bronze-level Bicycle Friendly Community.
