King/Beauregard Intersection Improvements
What's New?
- The Department of Transportation and Environmental Services (T&ES), Maintenance Division has scheduled roadway maintenance on King Street between Hampton Drive and the on-ramps at I-395. Resurfacing activities are scheduled to begin Sunday through Thursday, starting Sunday, September 18, occurring overnight from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m . The City will work to minimize impacts and disruption to the residents and businesses within the construction project area, please see the attached letter sent to residents and business. This maintenance project has been coordinated with the planned King/Beauregard Intersection Capital Improvement Project scheduled to start Spring 2013. However, in order to conserve limited funds, curb-to-curb resurfacing of King Street will only occur outside the limits of the planned CIP project (west of North Hampton Drive). For additional information please contact Roy Worrell, Division Chief, at 703.746.4103.

The Department of Transportation and Environmental Services (T&ES) is working on an intersection improvement project at the intersection of King Street and Beauregard Street and Walter Reed Drive. The proposed at grade improvements will add an additional left turn lane in each direction on King Street, medians and a 10’ shared use path on portions of King Street and North Beauregard Street. The improvements will increase capacity and safety through the corridor.
A public meeting was held in November 2009. The presentation, transcript and comments from the meeting are posted below along with the approved environmental document and other project information.
The project is currently in the right of way phase. The City has hired a consultant to assist in acquiring the land and necessary easements to construct the project.
The project is expected to go to construction in Spring 2013.
The current plans can be reviewed at City of Alexandria City Hall, 301 King Street, Room 3200. Property impact information is also available for your review.
