City of Alexandria, VA
![]() About What's Next AlexandriaWhat's Next Alexandria is a community conversation about civic engagement and planning for the future -- and how Alexandrians can best participate in the public decisions that shape the City. In this process, we will work together to reach agreement on the principles that will guide civic engagement and planning in Alexandria. You will first see these principles applied to decisions about growth and transportation because these issues are among our most controversial, but they will also be used to meaningfully involve Alexandrians in decisions about all of the issues facing our City.
How the effort is being approached:
The most important voice in this conversation is yours. The City is the convener of this effort, but the discussion and the recommendations are up to you. Your participation will make this initiative successful and sustainable.
Stay tuned for the next opportunity to participate online as well as the next Community Dialogue, planned for April 30th. Visit the What’s Next Alexandria home page for more information and announcements. Stay connected:
The City's involvement:Organizing the What's Next Alexandria effort is a team that spans the City, including a citizen representative and staff from Action Alexandria, Alexandria Economic and Development Partnership, City Attorney's Office, City Manager's Office, Communications and Public Information, Department of Community and Human Services, Virginia Health Department, Information Technology Services, Parks, Recreation and Cultural Activities, Planning and Zoning, and Transportation and Environmental Services. "We need to establish a culture of of community -wide engagement and develop relationships that last beyond the meetings." "We have to find ways to involve the people who have dismissed or given up on the process of engaging in the Democratic process." We really need to develop a way all concerns are heard and persons are not feeling like they are on a fast moving train." ~ Alexandria citizens and Dialogue participants, ![]() |
