Winter Weather Preparedness
Winter is here and emergency response, including snow and ice removal, are a top priority and core City service. Potomac Yard Metrorail Station
An infill Metrorail station is being planned for the Potomac Yard development along the yellow and blue lines. The project is currently completing the environmental review process and beginning development of conceptual design. A working group has been established to coordinate with City staff on the project. The West End Transitway

The City is proposing a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system to provide high-capacity transit service using a combination of dedicated and shared lanes; including high-quality stations with rider amenities.  The West End Transitway will connect major transit facilities – Van Dorn Metro Station, Mark Center Transit Center, Shirlington Transit Center, and the Pentagon Transit Center, and several neighborhoods along the corridor.  The West End Transitway Alternatives Analysis / Environmental Assessment (AA/EA) is an analysis of transportation, land use, and environmental conditions along the corridor.

Old Town Area Parking Study

In 2015, the City reconvened the Old Town Area Parking Study (OTAPS) Work Group to continue reviewing and making recommendations on parking management in the Old Town area. The Work Group will review and discuss potential changes to existing metered parking restrictions, Old Town residential permit parking restrictions and prioritize recommendations for the Traffic and Parking Board and City Council.

Construction Permits and Inspections

The Construction Permits and Inspections Section, under the Infrastructure Right of Way Division, is located in room 4130 in City Hall. This section manages and inspects capital improvement projects through all phases of construction,  permitstemporary reserved parking, and all work within the right of way. Contact Us: 703.746.4035


Infrastructure & Right of Way

The Infrastrucutre & Right of Way Section, located in room 3200 in City Hall, designs capital improvement projects to be administered by the department, reviews State projects, and privately submitted site plans to ensure construction is in compliance with the City's engineering standards and policies.  The Engineering & Design Division is also responsible for the City's  Floodplain Management and  Water Supply PlanContact Us: 703.746.4065


Environmental Quality

Environmental Quality, located in Room 3000 in City Hall, administers the City's air, water, and noise improvement programs, which help preserve and protect the environment and public health and welfare. Contact Us: 703.746.4065


Public Works Services

The Public Works Services Division, located in the T&ES Operations building located at 2900 Business Center Drive, provides maintenance and repairs for all City sewers, streets, sidewalks and fire hydrants; maintains stream beds, weirs and stream banks; maintains drainage tunnels, box culverts, storm water pollution removal facilities; maintains bridges; and conducts snow removal and flood control operations. Resource Recovery

The T&ES Division of Resource Recovery, located in the T&ES Operations building at 2900 Business Center Drive provides refuse collection and recycling services. Contact Us:  703.746.4410


Transit Services

Transit Services and Programs, located in room 1200 in City Hall, coordinates Metro related services, the Alexandria DASH bus service, DOT paratransit for the mobility impaired, ridesharing to promote the formation of car and vanpools, the Virginia Railway Express commuter rail, bus stop amenities, and other vehicle alternative programs. Transportation Planning

The Transportation Planning Division, located at 421 King St., Suite 300, implements the City's Comprehensive Transportation Master Plan, and focuses on a long-term vision for Alexandria's transportation system through partnerships with State, regional, and local agencies.
