2007 Felonious Assault Case Reclassified As Homicide;
Detectives Continue Investigation
Alexandria police are continuing their investigation into the October 2007 murder of a man in the 3800 block of Executive Avenue. This offense was originally classified as a Felonious Assault and reported on the Daily Crime Report for October 22, 2007.
On Sunday, October 21, 2007, at about 2:00 A.M., police were called to 3807 Executive Avenue for a report of a man being assaulted by several suspects. The victim, Jose E. Cruz, 26, was transported to a local hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. Mr. Cruz died the next day. The medical examiner’s initial ruling as to cause of death was inconclusive. Additional forensic testing was ordered.
On January 14, 2008, the medical examiner’s office ruled Mr. Cruz’s manner of death to be homicide. The cause of death was found to be trauma to the head and abdomen. As a result of this ruling, the case has been reclassified from a Felonious Assault to a Homicide. Although this case was originally classified as a Felonious Assault, pending a final ruling from the medical examiner, detectives have been investigating the incident as a Homicide from the date the offense occurred.
This was the seventh murder in Alexandria during 2007. There were five murders in Alexandria during 2006.
Anyone with information about this offense is urged to call Alexandria police detectives at 703-838-4711.
