FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: November 26, 2008 Temporary Portable Signage Pilot Program Approved by City CouncilAt its November 25 legislative meeting, the Alexandria City Council voted to approve an ordinance establishing a pilot program to allow restaurant and retail-oriented businesses in the Central Business District (Old Town) not located on King Street to place a consolidated sign at their specified King Street corner. The pilot program is effective immediately through March 15, 2009. To determine eligibility and sign placement, businesses can access additional information about the program online at alexandriava.gov/planning. The Web site includes information on the parameters of the proposed pilot program, a map showing the location of eligible businesses and where signs may be placed, an example of a temporary portable sign design, and a permit application and checklist.
