U.S. House Primary Elections Voter Registration Deadline Approaching

The deadline to register to vote in the June 10 Democratic and Republican U.S. House of Representatives Primary Elections is Monday, May 12 at 5 p.m. Citizens may download applications from the Alexandria Voter Registration web site, www.alexandriavoter.org, and submit by mail to the Alexandria Voter Registration Office, 132 N. Royal St., Suite 100, Alexandria, VA 22314. All mailed applications must be postmarked on or before May 12. Applications may also be obtained at all Alexandria Libraries and the Office of Citizens Assistance at Alexandria City Hall. Citizens can register in person at the Voter Registration Office and Virginia Dept. of Motor Vehicles Customer Service Centers.

Absentee voting begins on May 12. Voters may download absentee applications from www.alexandriavoter.org or request the application be mailed to them. Completed absentee applications may be mailed or faxed to the Voter Registration Office at 703.838.6449. Absentee voters may also vote prior to the primary election at the Voter Registration Office. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and on Saturday, June 7.

Primary voters must choose the political party primary of their choice. Virginia election law prohibits voters from casting ballots in both primaries. Incumbent James P. “Jim” Moran Jr. is being challenged by Mathew T. Famiglietti in the Democratic Primary. Mark W. Ellmore and Amit K. Singh are running for the Republican nomination.
