Gadsby’s Tavern Museum to Host Grand Ball on April 16

Grand Ball by Frank SailorGadsby’s Tavern Museum is pleased to invite you to enjoy their annual Grand Ball – sure to be the finest 18th-century ball of the 2011 dance season!

Celebrate the arrival of spring with this festive event set in the 1780s in the historic ballroom of Gadsby’s Tavern on Saturday, April 16, from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. The Grand Ball will include live music, dance instruction, a special Queen’s cake and dessert collation, “gaming,” and a cash bar.  A “King” and “Queen” will be chosen to preside over the Ball!

Advance tickets are $45 per person and $50 at the door, if available. Tickets may be purchased by calling 703.746.4242 or through the online shop at www.gadsbystavern.org.

To prepare for the Grand Ball, take 18th-century dance lessons from an expert dance master at Gadsby’s on Thursday evenings on March 31, April 7, and April 14.

In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, Gadsby’s Tavern was the center of social and political life in Alexandria and the new Federal City of Washington.  The tavern served as the premier gathering place for residents – including George Washington – and visitors to eat, drink, learn, and influence history.

Gadsby’s Tavern Museum is located at 134 North Royal Street in the heart of Old Town Alexandria.
