Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS)

The Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for a new Potomac Yard Metrorail Station is now available for public review and comment, marking a major milestone in the City of Alexandria’s vital transit and economic development initiative. As project partners, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and the National Park Service (NPS) have approved the Draft EIS for public review. Following a public comment period and series of community meetings and public hearings, City Council will formally consider the new station and its preferred location.

New Potomac Yard Metrorail Station

An infill Metrorail station is being planned for the Potomac Yard development along the yellow and blue lines. The project is currently undergoing the environmental review process and location identification, with three locations under consideration. A working group has been established to coordinate with City staff on the project. Learn more about the process and view images of the documents provided to date.

Crystal City-Potomac Yard Transitway
The new Metroway premium transit service has begun with a strong start, raising weekday ridership to nearly 1,500 per day. This exceeds ridership of the 9S bus (the Crystal City/Potomac Yard shuttle, which was replaced by Metroway) by 50% and builds on unchanged 9A bus ridership (which also operates through the four Alexandria Metroway stations). In the ultimate configuration of the transitway, buses will operate between Pentagon City Metrorail and Braddock Road Metrorail stations in both exclusive and mixed-use lanes through Arlington County and the City of Alexandria.
