What's Next Alexandria is a community conversation about civic engagement and planning for the future -- and how Alexandrians can best participate in the public decisions that shape the City. In this process, community members worked together to reach agreement on the principles that will guide civic engagement and planning in Alexandria. You will first see these principles applied to decisions about growth and transportation because these issues are among our most controversial, but they will also be used to meaningfully involve Alexandrians in decisions about all of the issues facing our City.
AlexEngage is an online forum for civic engagement, which builds on the "What's Next Alexandria?" civic engagement framework adopted by Alexandria City Council. AlexEngage allows you to read what others are saying about important Alexandria topics and add your input by posting your own statement. City officials will read the statements and incorporate them into the decision-making process. As with any public comment process, participation in AlexEngage is voluntary; City officials will consider input from this forum along with all other channels for participation. Join the conversation, be heard, and provide valuable input to decisions that affect your community!
The City of Alexandria is seeking input from the public regarding possible site configurations for expanding the existing Chinquapin Park Recreation Center and Aquatic Facility with a new, indoor 50-meter pool. A consultant team is assisting the City and conducting a feasibility study to determine if such an expansion is viable. A series of public meetings and engagement opportunities are an important component of the study. Join the Conversation >>
About What's Next Alexandria
How the effort is being approached:
- We are reaching out to the entire city
- We are asking the community, not telling the community
- We are meeting in person to facilitate meaningful conversations among community members about problems and solutions
- We are offering alternative non-meeting options for those who can't come to meetings
- We are learning from experts and best practices in other parts of the country
The most important voice in this conversation is yours.
The City is the convener of this effort, but the discussion and the recommendations are up to you. Your participation will make this initiative successful and sustainable.
